The first car that comes to mind for me is the old highly loved, Skyline GT-R. Which was somewhat porky for it’s time. But it was rather competitive with the other lighter sports cars of the time( Mazda RX-7 Toyota Supra, to a lesser extent the 3000GT VR-4 ) and I’m sure you could easily tune the RB26DETT to make up for it’s weight quite easily. Wait a second, wasn’t the 3000GT VR-4 heavier? And much more fragile?

Kinja'd!!!

Shit.

For a modern car, I would argue the current Ford Taurus SHO Performance Pack falls into this category.

365hp, AWD with upgraded brakes and cooling systems for it to survive hard track sessions. But those 245 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars trying to keep it’s 4350lb weight from skidding off the track can only hold a .86g skidpad load.

Oh there’s no end to piggish performance cars. If you want to include GT cars, it is even longer.

The SL Mercs are close to two tons. Couple that with a V6 (in Europe, naturally) and you have an issue.

The current M5/M6 are both over two tons. I rode in one around a tight track, and in stock form, you do feel the mass battling with the suspension (I can’t imagine how slow a 520i would be). I get that they are more geared as executive cruisers, but surely they could cut some weight...

I agree on the SHO Taurus. That’s more of “Too damn big for its own good”. What’s more, the cabin is quite cramped in my opinion (I’m 6 foot 4)

Unfortunately this will get worse as the government continues with the mandated safety features (latest idea is back seat sensors since people are apparently leaving their kids in the car all the time, as alleged by the media)

Yup. Part of why I don't love my VR4 galant is that it handles like a 3300lb car, because it is. I miss my old 2200lb Hondas.

My 2001 Acura 3.2 CL Type S should have been a lot of fun but at 3500 lbs it was handicapped (that, and the transmission & brakes were remarkably unreliable). Also, my 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo @ 3600lbs was too heavy to be a sports car (MAF and head gasket issues). My 2007 Cayman weighs in at 3000lbs and is a joy to own, sometimes ya just gotta go smaller to have a tossable tw0 door..

Dodge Challenger SRT8. How do I know? I daily drove one for 3 years. It’s an absolute garbage car. It is a touring car at best and nothing more.

Don’t even get me started on the Hellcat. That car is worst in every way except the burnout department.

Alfa 159. Stunning stunning car, but built on an overheavy GM platform (all GM Europe platforms tend to be significantly heavier than their rivals).

Also, any small sports car that weighs more than 1000kg and change.
